By end of May 2008, the number of Internally Displaced People (IDP) in Iraq was 2,169,920. This marked
a decrease by 3,234 people compared to April 2008. The Iraqi Red Crescent Organization registered
changes in the numbers of IDP in three governorates- Kirkuk, Kerbala and Saladin...

In Iraq, the security situation improved as a result of law enforcement especially in Baghdad (Al-Karkh
and Al-Rasafa) as well as in other governorates. Reports indicate 60 percent reduction in terrorist

The following updated statistics on the Internally Displaced People (IDP) in Iraq was compiled by the
Disaster Management Coordinators in the eighteen Iraqi governorates in cooperation with the army of
Iraqi RC volunteers. The Iraqi Red Crescent statistics showed that the number of IDP increased by 71.1 percent in
August. The vast majority of this increase (96.4 percent) was in Baghdad governorate (see table 3 for
distribution of IDP by governorates). Also, children constituted 51.3 percent of total IDP- a 12.6 percent
increase since 31 July 2007...

Since Samarra' events on 22 March, 2006, there has been a population movement (internal displacement)
all over Iraq, which is intensifying an already unstable situation. The United Nations High Commissioner
for Refugees (UNHCR) estimated that 1.8 million Iraqi citizens were displaced to neighboring countries
mainly to Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Iran and Egypt. By end of May 2007, there was over one million
Internally Displaced People (IDP) of which 37% were children (less than 12 years), 33% were women
and 30% were men...
