The Iraqi Red Crescent provides emergency assistance to the destitute and internally displaced families all over Iraq, distributing aid through the widespread network of Iraqi Red Crescent branches, offices and volunteers.
At least 200,000 families benefit each month from the aid distribution program of the Iraqi Red Crescent, which involves food and non-food items.
Every 15 days, Iraqi Red Crescent networks deliver food rations that include flour, rice, sugar, vegetable oil, tomato paste, salt, jam, spaghetti, lentils, tea, sardines, and cheese. The $33.5 USD cost per family ration covers the expense of the food, distribution, transport and security.
A share of non-food items contains 4 blankets, a cooking stove, lantern, 2 jerry cans, a kitchen set and thermos, which are distributed every three months at a cost of $99.50 USD per family.
To maintain the current level of aid, the Iraqi Red Crescent requires:
- $13,400,000 USD per month for bi-monthly distribution of food for 200,000 families
- $4,975,000 USD every 3 months for the distribution of non-food aid for 50,000 families
The Iraqi Red Crescent also supports a response operation involving the externally displaced people (EDP) who settled in neighboring countries, mainly in Jordan and Syria. The Iraqi Red Crescent provides financial assistance through its offices in Amman and Syria to vulnerable families and individuals, facilitating medical treatment of the wounded or sick and ensuring the supply of food items.
