The Iraqi Red Crescent Organization is the only organization that has access all across the country, through its 300 offices and outreach network of 100,000 volunteers and employees.
The Iraqi Red Crescent provides relief assistance and disaster management services on daily basis to the most vulnerable people, especially those affected by natural and human made disasters. The Iraqi Red Crescent is building its capacity including human resources and infrastructure in order to increase its disaster response efficiency, coordinating its interventions with partners and relevant agencies and most importantly, with the local communities.
The Iraqi Red Crescent has two main warehouses, one in Salah Eddin governorate and one in Baghdad, in addition smaller warehouses within the branches. Disaster response interventions are facilitated by 130 light vehicles, 40 pick-ups and 10 trucks.
The capacity of the warehouses and the number of trucks is insufficient to meet the needs of Iraq’s current crisis. The Iraqi Red Crescent is addressing its partners to support the provision of new trucks, the construction of a new warehouse, and the development of a computerized warehouse system to more efficiently coordinate the supplies of the 18 branches and headquarters.
